Mornin’!
The night went well. Around 3:00AM Mom called my name out. She awoke startled that she needed to use the toilet. The nurse reminded her that she had a catheter. I guess it’s a unique experience that she was somewhat disoriented about. We got back to sleep shortly after that.
Mom’s biggest complaint has been that she is completely parched and the only thing she is allowed to have, even at this time this morning, is swabbing of lips and sipping from the sponge swab.
The nurse was in at 4:00 to check vitals. Around 6:00 the pain IV unit set off an alarm that there was air in the line. Got that taken care of then more sleep till 7:30AM. Then it was time for the crew change. Mom was looking amazingly better this morning. It’s a miracle to me that such a big change can take place so quickly. They removed the catheter around 7:30. This step, of course, leads to the need to get out of bed to use the toilet if possible. Movement is high on the agenda.
Back to sleep for a bit then both of us were up and chatting a bit!!
She was awake for about half an hour then said she was sleepy. She fell back asleep and is resting well again.
I didn’t even realize until now that they took the oxygen out of her nose. I knew they were stepping it down but didn’t realize they had taken it out. Hmmmm… maybe I was half asleep too.
It’s a cloudy day here this morning but we have a nice view from the ninth floor.
