N. Carolina Mountains
14 – 17 November 2016
My friend of more than thirty years moved from Pompano Beach, Florida to Jefferson, North Carolina this summer after having lived there since the 60’s! Chickie Olsen and I have been friends through the Lutheran Church and the Florida Education Association as leaders in each group over the years.
As Chick shared pix of her new home in Jefferson I couldn’t wait to see it and celebrate her new home. We’re always so busy gabbing when we visit we never got a pic of the two of us. Way to go, Chick! LOL This pic was at the Pompano house in 2014.
I left Orlando on Monday morning at 9:00 and got there after a beautiful drive at 8:30pm. Traffic, as always seems to be the case, was crazy at Charlotte even though I took the newish I-285 outer belt. This was the night of the Super Moon. As I was approaching the mountains of Western North Carolina, it rose in it’s most huge and beautiful splendor. Unfortunately traffic was so thick I couldn’t get a safe spot to pull over and take a pic.
Chick’s house is in a golf course gated community and beautiful. It was a very nice crisp night when I arrived with the temp in the low 50’s. The morning was much cooler in the 30’s but warmed up quickly to the 50’s again.
We spent a few days catching up with each other and seeing a few of the local spots. The mountains are beautiful in Autumn. We made a fun stop at a tiny Episcopal church that has a Fresco in it that was done in the 80’s. It’s very nice.

Of course, time with old friends involves some good food. We stopped at Shatley Springs Inn for a superb country food lunch.
