The Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter in York, commonly known as York Minster, is the cathedral of York, England, and is one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe. English Gothic architecture, Perpendicular Style.

My emotions have been a roller coaster this week following the June 12 massacre at Pulse Night Club in Orlando. I decided to take a trip to York where I would be able to visit York Minster, the Cathedral of Yorkshire. I felt the need for a spiritual uplifting. I took the train from Scarborough to York on Thursday morning. It was only about a 45 minute ride. After the short ride to York I happened upon the arrival of the steam train, the Scarborough Spa Express. It was beautiful. There was a great irony as lots of people gathered at the platform with their 21st century electronics to take pix of the 19th century train with the fireman stoking the coal fired boiler and the steam whistle blew! 🙂

My first stop was the Hop On/Off Tour bus which shows the highlights of York. It was a beautiful day and riding on the open upper deck gave me a chance to see and learn about a lot of this old, very historic city.

On my walk to the cathedral I stumbled upon  the Museum Garden of York. What a beautiful place.

A few blocks beyond the Garden was the cathedral. So majestic and beautiful under a gorgeous blue sky this day. This day was meant to be.IMG_3587
