One of the world’s greatest cities
21 June 2016 – Tuesday
LONDON!
Took the Virgin fast train from Glasgow this morning. It was a 4.5hr trip and was £37 ($54) to travel 345 miles; 110+ was our actual speed. What a great deal for such fast, excellent service. There were about five stops of only 3-4 minutes each. I LOVE the high speed trains of England. Maybe by next century, the US will realize the need. 🙁
Virgin Trains – London Euston Economy Class Virgin Train
A glimpse of First Class – pretty nice but about twice the price so I have a pic from outside the car. 🙂
I had booked a room on MisterBnB (similar app as AirBnB but for gay men). When I arrived I took the subway and bus to Anael’s flat in Vauxhall… not far from Westminster across the Thames. Anael met me at the bus stop that was across the street from his flat. How convenient is that? He’s a great guy, originally from Brazil, living in London for several years. He has a lovely flat that was very inviting and comfortable.
After settling in at Anael’s, I took the bus into Westminster and on to Trafalgar Square. It was a beautiful night on the square. There was a rally going on where lots of LGBT folks were supporting a vote to STAY in the European Union that was going to take place on Thursday. It was fun talking with some of them to learn that they were concerned that it is important for the UK to remain as a part of the effort for strengthening LGBT Equality throughout the EU. It was also very moving to see Rainbow Flags flying on the Canadian Embassy adjacent to Trafalgar Square and on other buildings, governmental and private, throughout the city. These were flying in support of #OrlandoStrong.
