Blackburn / Blackpool
9 June 2016 – Thursday
Went to town today to do some grocery shopping with the guys. Got a bit more of a glimpse of Blackburn… Population 106k.
Spent a couple hours working on this blog; catching up on the last couple days.
Drove to Blackpool tonight, about an hour away to go to Funny Girls cabaret show. It was a nice place with pretty good talent. Before the show we had dinner at The Imperial Pub where I got my first taste of fish and chips this trip and a pint of Bitter.
I was a bit surprised at the show because it is billed as a drag show but very different than any I’ve ever been to before. They had a DJ/Emcee who was quite good. The way it worked was that from 8-8:30, Zoe (in drag) played music and bantered with the audience. The show started at 8:30 but unlike other shows where the performers go one number after the other except for a couple minutes of banter by the emcee in between numbers, this time the emcee played perhaps 10-15 minutes of music and banter between each act. We were told there would be a special finale at 11:00. All the shows I’ve been to are about an hour. I couldn’t imagine this show lasting 2.5hours. The music was getting really loud and we were tired so we left about 10:15. The best number was actually a River Dance number. They were great.
Got home at 11:20. I’m here writing this at 12:10am and heading to bed now. G’night!
