Relaxation and Friends

22-23 June 2017 – Thursday/Friday

Thursday, I took the BTS Sky Train to the Terminal 21 Mall where I needed to buy a SIM card for using my phone in Thailand, a little shopping, and dinner with my great friend Wat.

The one bedroom condo at Mayfair Place on Sukhumvit 64 in Bangkok has been very nice and comfortable and, as is the usual case in SE Asia, very reasonably priced… $28/night for a 400sq foot condo on the 7th floor of an 8 story building only a five minute walk to public transit.

24 June 2017 – Saturday

We headed to the south of the city to visit Ancient City / Mueang Boran. I had not heard of this until Wat told me about it. I’m so glad he suggested it. Traffic is always bad in Bangkok, a city of eleven million, so it takes much longer than usual to go a short distance. The BTS has a new line that runs near the site but it’s still under construction. Wat drove the short 15 mile trip but it took an hour to get there!

Ancient Siam is dubbed as the world’s largest outdoor museum. In Samut Prakan province, the 320-hectare ‘city’ features 116 structures of Thailand’s famous monuments and architectural attractions. The grounds of Ancient Siam correspond roughly to the shape of the Kingdom, with the monuments lying at their correct places geographically. Some of the buildings are life-size replicas of existing or former sites, while others are scaled down.

We ate at Bang Pu at sunset on the north tip of the Gulf of Thailand about to have dinner.

25 June 2017 – Sunday

Facebook keeps coming up with more and more cool but almost spooky automated shows. Wat and I went to visit his Mom and see his house this afternoon. She doesn’t speak English but it was nice meeting her. Wat’s home is only about fifteen miles east of central Bangkok but it is a rather rural area.

Fun twenty year throwback pic of Wat. 😉

26 June 2017 – Monday

Waiting to get a one hour balm and oil massage. 400 Thai Baht = $11.78!!!! I’ll let you know how it goes. The massage was good but a lot of places in Asia do the massage on a mattress on the floor. My preference is a massage table but I can’t complain about the price!

27 June 2017 – Tuesday

Having dinner with another old friend, Siam Angel Jeffrey. I met Jeff through my expat friend, Buddy, on my first trip to Thailand in 2014. Jeff is a taxi driver and tour guide.

Had a great reunion visit with my friend Jeff. We took a walk through Bangkok’s famous Lumpini Park then dinner. More new food for me in an oyster pancake (150฿/4.40$) with bean sprouts. Traveled there on the BTS aka Sky Train. The train was PACKED on the way back at 9:00pm and took almost an hour.

28 June 2017 – Wednesday

Tonight marks a week since my arrival and it’s been a very pleasant week of relaxation, spending time with old friends, and some sight seeing. I’ve been enjoying my first week of my fourth journey to Thailand quite a bit.
